The Cowboys announced Brandon Carr has accepted a $3 million dollar paycut. Carr is in the final year of his contract and was expected to make $9 million, but will now make about $6 million now. The deal is a straight-up salary reduction without an extension.
Mike Fisher tweeted:
I'm told Carr re-do should not be taken as a #Cowboys Ramsey draft indicator one way or another. @1053thefan

For me, this sure does seem like the proverbial tea leaves here. Carr was not inclined to take a paycut, but if he were to sense the Cowboys were going to take Jalen Ramsey, then he may have second thoughts. Thus the acceptance of the paycut, or hit the market post draft could leave Carr with a lot less money in his pocket.
The Chargers will shape what the Cowboys do at #4, so if they take Jalen Ramsey instead of Laremy Tunsil, then the Cowboys would likely go Joey Bosa or Zeke Elliott. The Chargers only met with Jalen Ramsey at the combine and have not done a workout of part of their 30-visits.
During today’s Cowboys’ pre-draft press conference Jason Garrett said the Cowboys would take the best player available despite player position or need. It’s often been stated by the Cowboys brass’ that drafting for need can get you in trouble. So, if this is their logic, then the two best players on the board for the Cowboys could be between Jalen Ramsey and Zeke Elliot.
I wonder where the Cowboys have Laremy Tunsil on their board. What if they had him higher then Ramsey and Elliott. Would the Cowboys really draft Tunsil to an already stacked offensive line? That would be a twist wouldn’t it?
Where do you stand on this — do you think the Cowboys are eyeing Jalen Ramsey? Is this the real reason Brandon Carr took a paycut just days before the draft? hmmmmm. Could be nothing, or could be everything.
