Cavs lose to Bulls 111-105

Cleveland Cavaliers v Chicago Bulls

The slump for the Cavs continued Friday night in Chicago against the Bulls. LeBron James lost to his good friend Dwyane Wade by a score of 111-105 after having to show up to the United Center in full Chicago Cubs uniform. That’s sort of a microcosm of how the night went for the Cavaliers.

  • JR Smith finally looked somewhat normal. He hit three of his first four attempts from deep. He scored nine in the first half but didn’t do anything after that. It wasn’t his greatest game, but it was a step in the right direction following the recent cold stretch he’s faced. Hopefully for the Cavs sake Smith breaks out soon.
  • The Chicago Bulls scored nearly 80 points in the paint, 78 to be exact. This is the highest total of any NBA team in any game thus far this season. The Cavs’ interior defense looked absolutely atrocious and embarrassing. For the Cavaliers to allow one of the worst perimeter shooting teams in the league to dominate inside the way they did was brutal.
  • It’s obvious that the Cavs are in an unwelcomed slump. They have looked out of rhythm ever since their trip to Columbus for the Ohio State-Michigan football game last Saturday afternoon. In their four games since they are 1-3, only squeaking past the lowly Sixers in that stretch. The schedule doesn’t get much easier for the Cavs with their third showdown with Toronto looming on Monday.
  • Statistically, LeBron played a solid game, scoring 27 points and dropping 13 dimes. He did however turn the ball over eight times on the evening.
  • Outside of the interior defense, another area that was mightily concerning for the Cavs was the way they were dominated on the glass. The Bulls outrebounded Cleveland 49-33, including 16-6 on the offensive glass. Kyrie Irving was lead the Cavs with four offensive rebounds, I don’t think that will happen too often this season.

The Cavs lace up again Monday night in Toronto at 7:30pm.
