College Football Top 25 Week One

Boise StateAfter Week One, here is our updated Top 25 ranking. All of the rankings were unranked from last year because we don’t use pre-season rankings in our Top 25.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide
-The offense looked great vs. San Jose State, and the offense is maybe more talented than last year’s defense.

2. Boise State Broncos
-An impressive win over my BCS title game pick, the Broncos deserve a chance in the championship as of now.

3. Ohio State Buckeyes
-I like Pryor and he might be one of the top contenders for the Heisman, but the Buckeyes will have to prove they’re done choking in big games.

4. Texas Longhorns
-Still immensely talented on defense and on the offensive line, but new and young playmakers on offense leaves some questions.

5. TCU Horned Frogs
-Still one of the best teams in the country with a combination of a great offense and an always outstanding defense.

6. Miami (FL) Hurricanes
-With Virginia Tech already off the undefeated path, the Hurricanes lead by Jacory Harris are tops in the ACC.

7. Florida Gators
-Lots of mistakes and no consistency on offense makes the Gators slide and still have a lot to prove.

8. LSU Tigers
-Big win over North Carolina and the promise of so many still developing pieces on both sides pushes them this high.

9. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
-Great coaching and the running back group that succeeded last year is back, and no defense as of now is talented upfront enough to defend them in the ACC.

10. West Virginia Mountaineers
-The Geno Smith, Noel Devine, and Jock Sanders trio along with the defense makes this team more dangerous than any in the Big East.

11. Arkansas Razorbacks
-With Ryan Mallett and a great receiving group makes this passing offense very dangerous in the SEC.

12. Nebraska Cornhuskers
-The team has talent at running back and receiver, and the defense is still stacked. But the loss of Suh and question marks at quarterbacks are a limiting factor.

13. Virginia Tech Hokies
-The loss to Boise State makes their BCS title dreams much, much harder, but losing to a Top 3 team is nothing to drive them too far down.

14. Michigan State Spartans
-I really like the quarterback and receiver situation for the Spartans, and this could be the year that coach D’Antoni gets this team to the Top 10.

15. USC Trojans
-The offense has loads of talent and the defense is still young and should develop nicely, but the mistakes that they showed in Week One is a big concern.

16. Oklahoma Sooners
I’m not sold on Landri Jones or the Sooner defense, but they have too much talent on both sides to not be competing for a Big 12 crown.

17. Missouri Tigers
-A lackluster performance against Illinois in Week One is a concern, but I still feel that Blaine Gabbert could lead this team very far.

18. BYU Cougars
-Winning over Washington was a huge plus, but overcoming the loss of so many key offensive weapons still needs to be answered.

19. Iowa Hawkeyes
-Last year’s Big Ten surprise still has loads of talent on offense, but a tougher schedule and an inconsistent offense makes me cautious.

20. Utah Utes
-They don’t have many great players, but with great coaching and a proven track record and a win over Pittsburgh gives them credence.

21. Washington Huskies
-The loss to BYU hurts their BCS title game hopes, but with Jake Locker and a young offense, they still have a very good chance at competing for a Pac-10 crown.

22. Oregon Ducks
-With all the turmoil around the program, I’m not ready to give them an inside track for the Pac-10.

23. Florida State Seminoles
-They have the horses, especially with Christian Ponder at quarterback, but I need to see consistency before I give them a chance for the ACC crown.

24. Penn State Nittany Lions
-The quarterback play for a freshman is a huge plus, but the receiving corps and the defense is still a question mark.

25. Houston Cougars
-The prolific offense and the relatively easy schedule makes this team a relatively possible option for the C-USA championship and beyond.
