The New Orleans Pelicans and Sacramento Kings agreed to a blockbuster of a trade last night. Following the 2017 All-Star game, it was released to the public that the trade was accepted by both teams and finalized.
According to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Pelicans received All-Star Center Demarcus Cousins and Small Forward Omri Casspi in exchange for Pelicans 2016 first-round pick Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway, and two picks (one first round, one second round) in this years draft.
I’m not certain which team came away with the advantage.
The Pelicans add another All-Star to the team and have by far the best front court in the league. At Power Forward they have Anthony Davis, an All-Star and the star of their franchise. He scored 52 points in the All-Star game last night, breaking Wilt Chamberlains record of 42 points which he recorded in the 1962 All-Star game. Davis is averaging 27.7 points per game so far this season. Cousins is averaging 27.8 points per game this season. The Pelicans now have the 4th and 5th leading scorers in the entire league. AND, they now have the two top scoring big men in the entire league. CRAZY
Davis is 6th in the league with 11.9 rebounds per game. Cousins is 11th in the league with 10.6 rebounds per game. So now the Pelicans have two big men putting up 20 and 10 a game. THAT IS NUTS!
Fact: Davis and Cousins are the only two big men in the NBA this season to average 20 and 10. ALSO, Demarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis are one and two in the NBA in 30-point, 15-rebound games since Davis’s rookie year in ’12-’13 (Cousins -26, Davis -18) Now they’re on the same team.
The Kings are in a complete rebuild mode. They will most likely have two top-ten picks in this years draft, along with two picks in the second round. They also received SG Buddy Hield, who was the 6th overall pick in the 2016 draft.
Source familiar w/ Kings’ thinking: "Vivek thinks Buddy [Hield] has Steph Curry potential.” Am told that fixation was a key driver in deal.

Kings owner Vivek Ranadive thinks Buddy Hield could be the next Steph Curry of the league.
There is question about Cousin’s attitude and the problems he created with the Kings. I honestly feel him and Anthony Davis will have a great Kentucky Wildcat connection. Cousins will love playing in a city like New Orleans and with another star player like Davis. Good things to come for the Pelicans.
Hopefully Boogie can leave his problems in Sacramento and star fresh in New Orleans.
