Cowboys and Colts 2012 Draft Classes Total Opposites

Roger Goodell, Andrew Luck

This Sunday will mark the first time the Cowboys will match-up against Andrew Luck. The Colts don’t have much riding on this game, since they have clinched an atrocious AFC South division; however, the Cowboys cannot stumble the next two games. The Cowboys could still be in contention for a first round bye, so there is more on the line for us. We just need to win out and we’re in the tournament, simple as that.

The 2012 NFL draft class is turning out to being one of the most influential draft classes in recent years, but somehow, the Cowboys figured a way to totally crap the bed with most of their picks.

— The Colts 2012 class has really helped shaped the Colts into the playoff team they are today. This is how you build a playoff contending roster via the draft. Let’s look at their picks.

Round 1: Andrew Luck, QB
2. Coby Fleener, TE
3. Dwayne Allen, TE
3. T.Y. Hilton, WR
5. Josh Chapman, NT
5. Vick Ballard, RB
6. LaVon Brazill, WR
6. Justin Anderson, OG
7. Tim Fugger, DE
7. Chandler Harnish, QB

The Colts hit on their first 5 picks, all starters. Not only did they hit with starters, but those top 5 picks are all big time starters in their schemes.

— Conversely, the Cowboys 2012 class has been a complete train wreck and probably a reason why Will McClay has been appointed the Draft Czar. Under Clay, we should not see anymore deficient draft classes.

Remember the dreaded 2009 class? 2012 is right there with it. Let’s look at our picks.

Round 1: Morris Claiborne, CB
3. Tyrone Crawford, DT
4. Kyle Wilber, LB
4. Matt Johnson, S
5. Danny Coale, WR
6. James Hannah, TE
7. Caleb McSurdy, LB

Tyrone Crawford is the best player of the whole group, and the only one that could land a 2nd contract with the team. Morris Claiborne is an absolute bust, and with his knee injury, I do not see him participating in training camp and preseason. At most, the Cowboys keep Mo on the roster for depth, but he could end up getting cut. He’s done mentally and physically.

Wilber and Hannah have been adequate complimentary players, but they’ll move on once they finish their rookie contracts.

Coale was hoped to be a part of the team from the slot position, luckily the Cowboys landed undrafted free agent Cole Beasley and he has filled the part nicely this year.

Johnson never played a down in the regular season and McSurdy didn’t make the team either.
