Cowboys Desperately Seeking a Win

- Greg Toler Mark J Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

If the Cowboys are going to make a run at the NFC East it will literally begin or end tonight against the hated Philadelphia Eagles. At 2-5, the Cowboys are laying inside the coffin, and a loss tonight would give the Cowboys a slim chance at a winning season let alone a playoff run. The Eagles will be looking at giving the Cowboys a death blow tonight which would seal their coffin with no condolences.

We keep saying we’re still in it, we still have a chance, we could still take the East. Nothing the Cowboys have shown in Tony Romo’s absence has suggested otherwise. Don’t get me wrong, a win would go a long way in keeping the Cowboys in the hunt, and I really hope they can pull out a win, but I just don’t see where they are going to get the offense from. A rusty Dez Bryant will give the offense a minimal bump as we saw last week, I don’t see much more again this week, but you never know.

As die hard fans we’re hoping the Cowboys can go on a two-game winning streak against the Eagles and Bucs, but a loss tonight would be devastating. 4-5 before Romo returns would be ideal, but can the Cowboys play mistake free football because that’s what will take without Romo — they haven’t done it yet.

Current NFC East standings:

New York Giants 4-4 (@ Bucs)

Washington Redskins 3-5 (lost to Patriots)

Philadelphia Eagles 3-4 (@ Cowboys tonight)

Dallas Cowboys 2-5 (playing Eagles tonight)

A win tonight would put the Cowboys within striking distance of the NFC East, but they’ll need to get on a winning streak. The Cowboys realistic hopes of making the playoffs will come from the NFC East title, it won’t happen from a wild card seeding, we’ve taken too many losses already.

Can the Cowboys actually win tonight?

Rod Marinelli’s squad will have a say on how this game turns out. Marinelli has a knack for slowing down and limiting the Eagles offense, so that will help. Greg Hardy should be able to hit some of his incentives tonight with Peters out on the left side for the Eagles, but we’ll need to lock down their receivers and the sacks will follow. The biggest question will be what the Cowboys offense can do tonight. They need to play with a sense of urgency and tempo.

Is this truly a do or die game for the Cowboys? A must have win? How do you see the game playing out, will we win this game?
