Dez Bryant was poised to have another breakout season after signing his new lucrative extension, but against the Giants he suffered a broken bone in foot. Dez could only watch from the TVs at AT&T stadium locker room as the Cowboys orchestrated a thrilling comeback win (a 27-26 Dallas victory) two times throughout the game. Dez is expected to be out a minimum of 4 weeks, but most are pegging his timeline for return at 8 weeks minimum which will account for all the rehab and re-conditioning his body.
This Sunday the Cowboys head to Philly when they play the Eagles at 3:25PM CST. According to oddsmakers is Las Vegas, the Cowboys are entering the game as underdogs.
Without Dez, the Cowboys will focus on their bread and butter which is their running game, but they’ll also rely heavily on a wide receiver by committee approach until Dez returns to action. Expect more of the same from Lance Dunbar as the utility back and more touches from Gavin Escobar who will be a mismatch for the Eagles corners.
It’ll be interesting to see how the defense holds up without the extra spark Randy Gregory gave the Cowboys during last week’s game against the Giants. I would expect Ryan Russel and Davon Coleman to get activated for this game to give the Cowboys extra rushers. From what I saw what the Falcons did on defense, I feel good about what our defenders will do.
