The pre-draft rumor ferver is picking up and we’re now hearing the Cowboys could be looking to jump back into the 1st round.

To me this tells me the Cowboys could bail from 4, but perhaps just a few spots and draft Ezekiel Elliott and flip thee 2nd or 3rd round picks to bundle together with a combo of their current picks to jump back into the 1st round.

If this is the Cowboys plan, they need to be careful not to drop back to far.

So, it looks like the market for Zeke is going to begin at 8, unless your Dallas where you control the selection right now at #4. Let’s look at the draft order after Dallas:

5. Jacksonville Jaguars
6. Baltimore Ravens
7. San Francisco 49ers
8. Cleveland Browns (from Philadelphia Eagles through Miami Dolphins)
9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
10. New York Giants
11. Chicago Bears
12. New Orleans Saints
13. Miami Dolphins (from Philadelphia Eagles)

If 8 is open for business from Cleveland, then teams like the Giants or Dolphins could make that jump.

So who would the Cowboys want in the second half of the 1st round? It would have to be a QB, to give up multiple picks, it would have to be QB. Paxton Lynch would probably be the target if available, and for me I wouldn’t expect it to be another QB. I would not be happy giving up picks if it was for someone like Cook or Hackenberg.

If I’m Dallas I’m looking to look into trading with Baltimore. During yesterday’s draft show on DallasCowboys.com Bryan Broaddus indicated the Ravens under Ozzie Newsome have been big traders, and have traded up 18 times under his tenure.

We’ll see what happens, but things are picking up.
