Wow, what a wasted day for fans. Trust me, I’m right there with all you guys, this was a huge tease, its like christmas morning and you open your present and nothing is inside the box. I think the Cowboys had a plan to draft Robiskie, Delmas, Chung, McBath. The safties got raided, so you can forget getting a safety to groom and take over next year. With some of these probable targets being plucked, I think the Cowboys pulled the trigger on the trade, and opted to get out of the 2nd round.
Even though we didn’t get anyone in the 2nd, it have been for the best. The 2nd round has been kind to the Cowboys, so perhaps an underlining superstition super ceded any plans to take anyone in the 2nd round. Excluding last year’s draft, look at recent 2nd round picks:
2007: traded pick to Cleveland
2006: Anthony Fasano
2005: Kevin Burnett
2004: Julius Jones, Jacob Rogers
2003: Al Johnson
All these players were average or worse. Feeling the burn from the 2nd round prospects, I think Jerry & Co. opted for more picks for the 3rd and 4th round picks. There are some good players that can contribute immediately, so we should start drafting players rather than moving down anymore.
So, now we have even more pick for Day 2. We now own (12) picks for rounds 3-7. Ok, surely the Cowboys won’t continue to trade down. Does Jerry now use the 5-7 round picks to move up for picks in the 3rd and 4th rounds? I would think so, but after today, don’t be surprised if Jerry continues to trade down. When Jerry said today would be slow for the Cowboys, he wasn’t joking.
Who are some targets now?
- Lawrence Sidbury, LB, Richmond
- Duke Robinson, OG, Oklahoma
- Rashad Johnson, S, Alabama
- James Casey, TE, Rice
- Herman Johnson, G, LSU
- Ramses Barden, WR, Cal-Poly
- Bradley Fletcher, CB, Iowa
- Asher Allen, CB, Georgia
- Kraig Urbik, OG, Wisconsin
- Jarron Gilbert, DT, San Jose State
- DeAngelo Smith, CB, Cincinnati
- Michael Johnson, DE, Georgia Tech
Cowboys will get to work early, Sidbury could be the pick unless the Chiefs decide to draft him to help their new 3-4 scheme, if not, Sidbury should be the pick, so make sure you tune in tomorrow morning.
