Cowboys Take 31-17 Victory Over Jaguars; Bye Week is Next

Dez

The Cowboys needed to play with a sense of urgency against the lowly Jaguars and they were able to register a decisive win, crushing the Jaguars 31-17.

The Cowboys are now 7-3 and with only 6 games left in the season, they have now set themselves up for a good chance at making a playoff run and it will start in two weeks against the New York Giants.

The bye week is huge for the Cowboys who have been going full tilt since training camp without a break, so we’ll have time to get our legs back and time to get healthier for the final stretch of critical games.

Here are my takes on the game:

Anthony Hitchens will be a full-time starter in 2015; the question will be will he play alongside McClain or Durant.  Hitchens has been solid when given a starting role. I’m impressed with the 4th round pick, and the future looks bright. Good game Hitch!

Safety and Cornerback could be addressed in the early rounds of the draft. Wth happened to Brandon Carr? and J.J. Wilcox runs too cold and hot, nothing consistent from him. He continues to go for the big hit rather than the wrap up tackle.

DeMarcus Lawrence had two tackles and Luke Joeckel stoned him all game, I was not impressed at all. Mincey continues to be the most consistent pass rusher on the team. It’s only his second game, but we’re going to need him to get going asap.

Ron Leary and Doug Free should both get extensions. Leary is stout and Free has turned his game around since his contract was re-done two seasons ago. The running game was night and day with Leary and Free both in the lineup. Murray had a good game.

Tony Romo is tough. I doubt there are a lot of players in this league that would play with the injury he has endured. What a competitor. Romo was protected by the offensive line and he was surgical today. It’s good to get Romo going before the bye week, and with an extra week of rest he’ll be ready for the final run.

Terrance Williams is on a two-game skid, he’s been a non-factor in the past two games. Today Williams had 0 yards.

Dez Bryant backed up his talk about beasting out the second half of the season, and today he torched the Jaguars for 158 yards and 2 TDs. Despite some media reports of the Cowboys being concerned about giving Dez a large contract, I wouldn’t be surprised if a deal get hashed out during the bye week. If not, this could drag into the offseason and head towards a franchise tag showdown.

Josh Brent is able to return to game action after the bye, I wonder if he’ll give us a boost in run defense.

Tyler Patmon has an MCL Sprain, early diagnosis is he will be out 2-4 weeks. Could see a roster move to shore up depth.

DeMarco Murray gets another 100 yard game. 1,233 yards for the year.

That’s it everybody. We have had a pretty good season through 10 games, with plenty of drama along the way. We have our identity with the running game, and with some rest we should be able to come out of the bye in good shape.

Stay focused and take it one game at a time. Let’s make a playoff run, let’s take care of our division games and we’ll be in good shape.

Enjoy the bye week guys! Go Dallas!
