Everyone was excited about Dak Prescott getting the start and to his credit, he played well. We saw the pocket poise and smart plays with the ball, he didn’t turn the ball over.
The Cowboys went down 20-19 against the New York Giants.
Here are the key plays that led to the loss:
— Cole Beasley dropped pass that would have been a touchdown if he hadn’t looked away.
— Dez Bryant touchdown that was not a touchdown. Dez did not have control and thus the reversal. Catch it!
— Terrance Williams is probably the most hated guy right now. Why did he remain in bounds? This was mind boggling, utterly unbelievable. This is the kind of thing you see from someone throwing the game or you’re dumb with no sense of situational football. You’re a vet and Dak looked more like the vet and you looked like the rookie. No matter how the season ends, this guy does not get a second contract in Dallas.
— The defense is horrendous. This is literally the repeat from last year. Terrell McClain was the only one making plays. Tyrone Crawford is over paid, and that continues to be confirmed. We can’t make a tackle. I’m compelled to suggest that we go out and make a blockbuster trade to get a true defensive end with proven credentials. We need another Charles Haley type trade to get this defense on track. Go get Ziggy Ansah, Khalil Mack, or someone of that stature. Ok that probably won’t happen, but you get my point — this defense has no one and we need someone. Yeah, in 4 weeks we get back rusty players, that’s not going to cut it.

- Ezekiel Elliott 20 carries for 50 yards 2.6 apc and 1TD
- Jason Witten 9 catches for 66 yards

- Dan Bailey 4/4 on fields goals
- Orlando Scandrick and Ben Mayowa had 1 sack each
- Shane Vereen and Odell Beckham killed us
Impressed with Zeke or not?
The Giants wanted to make Dak beat them, thus they focused on Zeke and shut him down for the most part. 2.6 per carry is not good. It does highlight how much the Giants viewed Elliott as a threat however. We could see this formula used by other teams moving forward, but none will have a solid defense front like the Giants.
You have to give Steve Spagnuolo credit, he has the tools now to put a solid defense on the field. They’ll be formidable this year. Not every team has the stacked defense that the Giants implore, so I expect Zeke to pop-off for some big yards.
Dak Prescott delivers
Prescott delivered and continued his smart play from the preseason, but his receivers let him down on some very key plays in the game. I really like what I saw with Prescott and looking forward to the next game. That final drive to win the game was impressive, but again, the receivers — man, you killed us today. Terrance Williams, gets the boneheaded player of the game award by a landslide.
