Temple will be back at the Liacouras Center for the first time this season, looking to move to 2-0 on the year.

Today’s Action

7:00 PM: Temple (1-0, 0-0 AAC) vs. Kent State (1-0, 0-0 MAC)

Coming off a narrow victory against the Penn Quakers, Temple will step up their level of competition, playing host to the Kent State Golden Flashes. The Golden Flashes were not tested in their opening contest, blowing out a Division III Ohio Northern club 84-48. Guard Derek Jackson, a transfer from Central Michigan who sat out last season, led the team with 18 points. Jackson is stepping into a Kent State starting lineup that lost their two best players from last season in Chris Evans and Randal Holt. The team is returning its other three starters and the guys to watch are guard Kris Brewer and forward Darren Goodson. Kent State did earn yet enough 20-win season last year, but it wasn’t necessarily against the best competition and it may be difficult to duplicate that feat this go-round.

Going against a small Kent State lineup, Anthony Lee should be able to control the glass, and Dalton Pepper may have another opportunity to shine in a hybrid stretch four role. These clubs are in the similar position of having to replace their best players from a year ago and incorporate some new faces into the main rotation. Both the Owls and the Golden Flashes are still working to find their identities in this young season. Ultimately, home court may prove to be the difference; look for the Wild Cherry student section to help propel Temple to a win in this matchup.
