Drexel 69, Delaware 65
Just when you think you’re out, the Dragons pull you back in. Following a touch overtime loss to James Madison, Drexel picked up their best road win of the year and spoiled Delaware’s Senior Day in the process. The Dragons were powered by a career-high 25 points from Tavon Allen off the bench, who shot 10-17 from the field`and had a breakaway lay-up to stretch Drexel’s lead to three with just over a minute left.
The game got off to a volatile start with Delaware jumping out to a 10-0 lead before Drexel countered with an 18-3 run of their own. The game settled into a back-and-forth affair from that point on until the Dragons pulled away down the stretch. Devon Saddler and Davon Usher paced the Blue Hens with 20 and 19 points, respectively. However, with Drexel countering with 19 points from Chris Fouch and the career day for Allen, their efforts weren’t enough for Delaware on this day. This win over Delaware bodes well for the Dragons with the CAA tournament just a couple weeks away. Drexel would potentially face Delaware in the second round if they finish with the 4th or 5th seed as expected, and now they know they have the capability of taking the Blue Hens down.
