Divisional Weekend Notes

Just checking in to assure everyone I’m still around. A couple of notes about Divisional Weekend follow, plus a few ideas for the Blitzburgh offseason.

*I didn’t do this for Wildcard Weekend because I pretty much didn’t see any of the games. Whatever. Jump.

RAVENS @ COLTS

Skipped the second half to watch the Pens game, but the first half was awesome. Watching the Ravens lose will never get old. Speaking of getting old, Ed Reed is now contemplating retirement. [Bleacher Report] I for one, don’t buy into it. I think Reed will be back next year, but I wouldn’t be sad to see him go, for sure.

CARDINALS @ SAINTS

Kurt Warner got wrecked. I love Kurt Warner, but I also love big hits. I also love when QBs get treated like every other player. [YOUTUBE]

I’d believe it if Warner retired this season. I, for one, wouldn’t want to see him go.

COWBOYS @ VIKINGS

So with like a 20 point lead or something, the Vikings went for it on 4th down and scored a TD. Keith Brooking threw a hissy fit about it. [Yahoo!]

“I thought it was totally classless and disrespectful. This is the NFL, that’s not what this is about. I don’t think there’s a place for that … I was looking for [Vikings coach Brad] Childress. I didn’t think it was right, but they’ve got to see us next year.”

Well, Keith. I have a few issues with that. If you don’t like them scoring, why don’t you try to stop them? It’s not their fault your team totally gave up. And you know what? This IS the NFL. Specifically, the NFL playoffs. The only thing that counts is winning. No one wants to make the other team feel good. Everyone isn’t a winner. It’s not like it’s Belichick going for it on 4th down while up by 28 in the regular season agains the lowly Bills. THAT would be classless. But no, if you’re in the playoffs, you obviously believe you deserve to be there, and any team has the right to do everything in their power to shut you down. Keith Brooking = weak.

JETS @ CHARGERS

Let’s be honest, it’s never the 1 and 2 seeds from both conferences in the Championships. Two 1-seeds won, and one 2-seed won, which left San Diego with the only team that could lose. And lose, they did. If this were a Chargers blog, I’d talk for days about how the team beat itself with penalties and miscues and play-calling (Tomlinson up the middle just doesn’t work anymore, guys). But this isn’t a Charger blog. It’s a Steeler blog. And it’s about time I talked some Steelers.

BUSINESS

The offseason is long and dull for a football fan, but it can be a blog’s time to really shine. The silver lining of the cloud that is a losing season is that it gives us a lot to talk about. We’ll be able to review things like the players as individuals and as units. We’ll talk about the coaching staff and the job they’ve done, good or bad. Then there are the more tangible things like the draft and free agency, if only the looming 2011 season weren’t screwing up UFAs all over the place. (if I could talk more about hockey, I would be ALL OVER the trade deadline. I love player movement.) Rest assured I’m already working on these kinds of things and I hope to start getting them up around Superbowl time.
