There really isn’t an easy way to say this, but just this morning at 2:28 Eastern, Dolphins defensive end, Derrick Shelby was arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest.
What’s interesting is the mugshot photo which shows a battered and bruised Shelby, whom was reportedly at the Off the Hookah Night Club in Fort Lauderdale until he was asked by security personnel to leave.
Reportedly, Shelby refused to leave and police were called in. Allegedly, those bruises could have been at the hands of police according to his attorney, Daniel Rosenberg.
What happened after, is a mystery at this point. Only the police of Fort Lauderdale know what happened.
This is the first arrest in Miami since Chad Johnson in 2012.
The Dolphins have yet to comment, but when they do, the rest of the NFL will be watching as well as it’s fans.
It’s (NFL’s) fans who keep on coming back and seeing how violence is ruining the image of the sport.
A sport loved by so many, but at some point could be seen as a turnoff for something as cool as baseball which has more excitement nationally during the playoffs.
For the Dolphins, they must do their due diligence right away and make the call on Shelby. They must ask the tough questions: What was Shelby doing? Why did he refuse to leave? What are the bruises from? What is the risk of supporting or cutting Derrick Shelby?
Too many questions to answer, people will be watching…and commenting.
