Things have gotten mighty interesting since Stephen Ross and the Dolphins parted ways with Jeff Ireland on Tuesday. It seems that Twitter has been a flurry with many a name or two or three as possible Miami Dolphins GM targets.
We've just learned, per Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, that the Dolphins will target Tom Gamble of the Eagles, Scot McCloughan, and finally Brian Gaine.
It's highly possible that the Dolphins could either be finding a GM willing to work with head coach Joe Philbin or one that might have his mind set on which coach they might want.
Tom Gamble spent time in San Francisco as Director of Player Personnel and then two years with Jim Harbaugh. He left to Philadelphia to work as Vice President of Player Personnel. He has worked in the NFL close to 27 years. Gamble seems to be the favorite among many Dolphins fans already on Twitter. He is the main target according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.
Scot McCloughan was GM in San Francisco since 2005 and later left for the Seattle Seahawks for their scouting department. McCloughan has largely been responsible for building the 49ers roster with names such as Ahmad Brooks (supplemental draft 2005) and Patrick Willis among others. McCloughan is an interesting choice and one that largely worked behind the scenes prior to the firing of then head coach Mike Nolan. McCloughan was placed in charge during the 2008 season before Nolan was fired mid season for then coach Mike Singletary.
Lastly, Brian Gaine remains on the short list of candidates. It is the feeling of NFL people that he should get a shot and presumably might have a different style as far as his evaluation of talent than his predecessor.
At this point, things are moving quickly, the Dolphins are a changing organization at the top and the man at the controls is Stephen Ross.
