The Dolphins have signed free agent running back Arian Foster to a one year deal. Foster met with Dolphins brass for the second time this off season today. He was scheduled to meet with the Detroit Lions later in the week, but the Phins had other plans. Foster, who was once a top 5 back will bring a much needed veteran presence the running back group.
Foster is coming off a torn Achilles, which is added to the long list of injuries he has sustained in recent years, met with the Dolphins earlier in free agency but at the time was not medically cleared. The Dolphins lost Lamar Miller to the Texans, Fosters former team, early in free agency.
Experience and depth was a major weakness for the running back group, as the Dolphins had tried unsuccessfully to bring in help as they lost out on CJ Anderson and Chris Johnson.
Leading up to Fosters signing, fan favorite, Daniel Thomas was the most experienced back on the roster. Second year back, Jay Ajayi is considered the early favorite to be named starter.
Expectations should definatly be tempered when it comes to Foster. If he is able to contribute 600-700 yards this season then that should be a win-win for the Dolphins. His leadership will certainly help the young guys in Ajayi and Kenyon Drake.
