Dolphins Sign Seventh Round Pick Chris McCoy

The Dolphins have finally signed their first member of the 2010 rookie draft class, by agreeing to terms with seventh round pick Chris Mccoy, according to Scout.com. The deal is reportedly worth four years for presumably minimum salary.

McCoy won the Co-Defensive Player of the Year award in the Sun Belt conference last season, and has the ideal measurables this regime likes their outside linebackers to have, measuring in at 6’3, 250 pounds.

McCoy will battle for a roster spot at weakside outside linebacker with the likes of Erik Walden and Quentin Moses. McCoy’s chances improved slightly recently, when the Dolphins waived Brian Johnston, who was also competing at outside linebacker.

Like in most of the projected backups’ cases though, the impact McCoy has on special teams will likely decide his fate.
