I have long had a man crush on Doug Martin, and who wouldn’t he’s a flat out beast on the field has all the moves on the dance floor this white man could only dream of having and has a smile so large you wonder if he can see.
Bronco Nation owes a lot to Doug Martin, yet Doug is such a humble guy that over a year ago when I kind of got the feeling he didn’t like the M. H (Muscle Hamster) nick name I sent him a message so as to be clear in that I wouldn’t promote it .His response was fans should do what makes them happy. So I was left with a mixed understanding. Doug is a humble guy and he seems to be of the type of person who is also trying to please. Certainly Doug has given Bronco Nation lots of pleasure and after watching a recent interview of him (see below youtube.) he’s made it pretty clear he doesn’t much care for it and wished it had not followed him from Boise.
As you heard in the interview he’s hopeful the fans will come up with a new nick name for him. There is much to draw from him to give us idea’s he’s an Apple nut and considers himself a bit of techno nerd. He’s also a great dancer as one can see in the video below as well.
Certainly many names have been used in the past and I believe Doug is such a special RB that if he was to be given a nick name he deserves something original that reflects who he is as a person. So idea’s Techno Back, Mac Attack, Thunderbolt : as one can see I’m not so creative when it comes to these things however consider this, Jim Brown had no nick name, Barry Sanders had no Nick name, sure OJ had a nick name so did Walter Payton but as with Barry Sanders and Jim Brown certainly the two greatest RB’s to ever play the game a nick name is not a requirement to greatness .
There for from here on out we should honor Doug Martins request and only refer to him as Doug Martin or and until something new comes along. Personally I believe Doug is going to fit into the Jim and Barry category and if he does so, to be known only as Doug Martin is the best possible nick name.
