Eric Dickerson’s rants against Jeff Fisher contributed to the former head coach’s ugly demise with the Los Angeles Rams.

Sean McVay has taken steps to ensure that Dickerson is part of what he hopes is a fruitful beginning to his Rams coaching tenure.

Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reported that the Rams rookie head coach reached out to the Hall of Famer and former Rams running back. That was just the first of multiple conversations between the two. They also have spoken on the phone and run into each other at the Super Bowl and the NFL Scouting Combine.

McVay conveyed his feelings about Dickerson and other former Rams to reporters from the owners meetings in Phoenix, according to ESPN.

“He’s a guy that will be around. There are so many great players that were a part of this organization, and you want those guys around. You want winners around. They know what it looks like. Marshall Faulk, Kurt Warner, Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce — D’Marco Farr is still present. … There’s a difference when a guy has done it; he’s been in that role when he’s talking to a Todd Gurley and a Lance Dunbar, kind of what it looks like. I have talked to Eric, and he’s a guy that I’m looking forward to getting to know a little bit better.”

McVay’s sentiments are a far cry from those of Fisher, who created a controversy during the 2016 season by asking Dickerson not to stand on the Rams sidelines during games anymore “because some of his public comments (about the team) have made players ‘uncomfortable,’ per another ESPN.com report.
