ESPN’s Chris Broussard States Opinion, Highlighting His Own Ignorance

50

Today ESPN’s Chris Broussard made an appearance on the program Outside The Lines, which was covering the story of Jason Collins becoming the first openly gay player in the NBA.

Broussard got to state his opinion and unfortunately it’s full of ignorance. He equates homosexuality with adultery and premarital sex and then makes another blunder by making this statement “I would not characterize that person as a Christian, I don’t think the Bible would characterize them as a Christian.”

Adultery and premarital sex are choices made by two individuals. So, apparently Broussard doesn’t understand what choice means.  According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary it means the act of choosing.

Choosing means to select freely after consideration. This means that those people engaging in adultery or premarital sex are free to stop at anytime. For someone who is a homosexual there’s no ability to choose, it’s not a lifestyle, it’s how the person was born. It’s not a disease, it’s not something that can get cured with therapy no matter what some people have claimed.

No matter what Broussard feels he doesn’t have the power to make any claim on whether someone is Christian or not. There’s an excellent blog post by Dan Pearce that goes over this topic.

In this excellent post he says “It’s not about Christians. It’s not about religion. It’s not about politics. It’s about something else altogether. Something greater. Something simpler. It’s about love. It’s about kindness. It’s about friendship”

He also highlights the teachings of different religions when it comes to treating each other and he found that in common was this “the greatest spiritual leaders in history have all preached love for others as the basis for all happiness, and never did they accompany such mandates with a list of unlovable actions or deeds.”

While Broussard is certainly entitled to his opinion, beliefs and has the right to share it with others it doesn’t mean people won’t call him out on it especially when there’s truly no basis to what gets said. The funny thing is he has an organization called K.I.N.G. It’s an acronym and the K stands for knowledge.

Obviously when he made his statements he didn’t apply any knowledge. Guess it’s back to the drawing board for his group.
