Final OTA Recap

Today was the last sneak peak at the 2010 Miami Dolphins before training camp, as the media was allowed into the facility for OTA’s for the last time of the offseason. Surprisingly, it was quite the eventful morning, contrary to the redundancy of past workouts. Below, I have highlighted some of the newsworthy happenings of the day, but as always check out Omar Kelly’s twitter, Mike Berardino’s twitter, and the Sun Sentinel for all the details.

Brandon Marshall practices, commits to #19
Initial reports indicated Marshall would be sidelined for all of the offseason OTA’s and possibly even into the beginning of training camp, as he recovers from hip surgery. Well, Marshall put some of that anxiety to rest today, as he took the practice field with his teammates for the first time while South Florida media members were present. He reportedly didn’t do a whole lot, as he is likely being eased into action, but this indicates his rehabilitation is ahead of schedule, and surely guarantees his 100% status by Week 1, baring no setbacks, of course. By the way, the fans who have been eagerly anticipating Marshall officially choosing a number, with a credit card in hand, have to wait no longer. He revealed today that #19 will be his official number for the 2010 season. I think it’s safe to say Marshall will be a little more productive than the guy who previously donned #19.

Ronnie Brown misses practice
Unfortunately, Ronnie wasn’t able to share the practice field with his new teammate. Ronnie missed the session because he reportedly had to have a screw removed from the foot he suffered a Lisfranc fracture in last season. The good news is, this is strictly standard procedure, and it shouldn’t affect his availability for the start of training camp.

Cameron Wake works with starters
For the majority of the offseason, Charlie Anderson has got the first team reps at weakside outside linebacker. This has caused the fans and media alike, to get a little bit impatient with Cameron Wake, because he displayed so much potential rushing the passer in 09′. Wake was seen lining up with the starters for the second time this offseason though, which just proves it’s way too early to write him off.

Henne getting comfortable
According to Tony Sparano, Henne has completed over 75% of his passes this spring. That’s exciting to hear, but let’s not read to much into this, as it’s a whole different ball game when there is a live pass rush, and Henne is allowed to get hit.

Countdown to camp begins
With today being the last report we will hear from OTA’s, the long wait for training camp is officially here. The Dolphins will report to camp on July 29th and get underway with practice on the 30th.
