As Jason Garrett heads into his 5th full season as the Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys, his thumb print is all over this roster. It has transformed into the team and culture that he once enjoyed when the Cowboys were winning playoff games and Super Bowls.
To me, last season was the first time in a long time that the Cowboys played with some swagger and with true ability to win any game against any opponent. At the conclusion of the Divisional Round loss to the Green Bay Packers, there was a sense that this team was ready to take the next step this year and pick up where they left off.
We saw the progression with Garrett as a full-time “walk around” coach which cut down on the previous season’s game management miscues. We also saw the defense take a step in the right direction with Rod Marinelli as the new Defensive Coordinator.
Garrett has all the pieces in place and the Cowboys are doing business the right way by not going after the big name free agents, but rather building this roster through the draft.
That leads me to the this segway; How many drafted players remain on the team from previous regimes and who are they? Five.
2003 Jason Witten (Parcells)
2007 Doug Free (Philips)
2008 Orlando Scandrick (Phillips)
2010 Dez Bryant (Phillips)
2010 Sean Lee (Phiilps)
These remaining five are arguably all cornerstone players at their position and all integral pieces for what could be another exciting season for CowboysNation.
