Former Cowboy Ron Springs passes away

By now you all know the heart touching story of Ron Springs, and the ultimate sacrifice of his friend and former teammate, Everson Walls. Walls donated one his kidneys to Springs who had been battling diabetes since 1990. Ron Springs has passed away at the age of 54. From Cowboy fans everywhere, we offer our condolences to the Springs family.

Since 2007, Springs had been in a coma after surgery to remove a cyst from his forearm went awry. He was considered brain impaired but not brain dead. He was diagnosed with diabetes in 1990 and received a kidney transplant in 2007.

The Cowboys drafted him in the fifth round, and he played six seasons in Dallas — mostly as a blocking fullback for Tony Dorsett — and two in Tampa Bay. (BuckeyeExtra)

Once a Cowboy, always a Dallas Cowboy.
