The big free agent New England was negotiating to have back, linebacker Dont’a Hightower is returning to Titletown, this time inked with a four year deal worth up to roughly 44 million bucks, according to Hightower’s agent ($19 million guaranteed).
In his free agent talks, the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers were in the running to sway Hightower into competing against the Patriots, but the cupcakes and gifts Hightower received could not defeat the atmosphere and culture of Foxboro, Massachusetts.
The highly regarded middle linebacker has been crucial when we needed him most. From the past two Super Bowl appearances, and fortunately victories, Hightower has been the impact player in the heart of the defense along with filling the shoes of former linebacker Jerod Mayo, who retired this past year.
With a career stuffed with injuries, Hightower has played through the pain and churned out some eye popping numbers. With 231 logged tackles in the books himself, Hightower has proven to be an efficient run stopper and become a household name around the league as a dominant force. Combined with assisted tackles, Hightower’s total number of solo and assisted tackles comes out to 372 in five seasons with the club.
Entering year number six, Hightower is a key veteran that will once again take command and take the younger guys under his wing.
