How can Germany’s national team improve their poor run of form?

Soccer: World Cup-Germany vs Sweden

German football is in the midst of one of its worst run of forms for many years. Ever since the national team’s disastrous outing at the 2018 World Cup, there have been many question marks about how the side can recover and regain their position as one of the world’s best teams.

Whilst Joachim Low’s side were widely tipped to win the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the side were defeated in their opening match against Mexico, and then barely scraped a win against Sweden. But it was the unforgettable sight of seeing the Germany team beaten 2-0 by South Korea that created one of the biggest sports stories of the year.

It wasn’t just the scorelines that shocked the football world, as the sheer lack of enthusiasm in the Germany team took many by surprise. Despite their horrendous performance at the 2018 World Cup, their head coach, Joachim Low, clung onto his job and hopes were high that the national team would regain their honour in the Nations League tournament.

However, things haven’t quite gone according to plan. Although Germany managed to draw a scrappy 0-0 game against the World Cup champions, France, things reached a new low when they were thumped 3-0 away to the Netherlands. This was swiftly followed up by a 2-1 away defeat to France, and then they were held to a 2-2 home draw by the Netherlands that saw them exiting early from the Nations League tournament.

“We asked the German sports betting resource, https://www.sportswettenbonus.de/, what they thought about Germany’s chances of a recovery, and they admitted that there is plenty of work to be done before the national side can recover past glories.”

Thankfully, we have seen a few rare moments where the Germany team can pull together to deliver a strong result. Take their recent home friendly against Russia where they comprehensively beat the visitors 3-0 thanks to goals by Leroy Sane, Niklas Sule and Serge Gnabry.

But despite these moments of optimism, it’s evident that Germany’s team are still lacking in that all-important team spirit necessary to compete successfully against the bigger and better sides. There’s been a prevailing attitude of negativity within the German ranks all the way through 2018 that was particularly evident when the Arsenal player, Mesut Ozil, was booed by the home crowd after his meeting with the Turkish president.

Whilst their head coach’s tactics came under plenty of scrutiny after the 2018 World Cup, there’s been such a sense of disillusionment in the German team that there remains big questions about how they can turn things around. Thankfully Low has seen sense by making sure that talented stars like Timo Werner and Leroy Sane get enough space to play in the Germany side recently. But ultimately, 2018 has proven to be one of the worst years for German football in living memory, and German football fans can at least know that it can’t get much worse.
