How to Pass Time Until the 2014 Season Kicks Off

2013 season was a letdown for the Cowboys. There’s not a single fan that would believe otherwise. On a positive note, it could have been worse they could have gone 6-10 like in 2010. Not that I’m saying that 8-8 is acceptable, nor is three consecutive 8-8 seasons. There is light at the end of the tunnel. 2014 is a new year and if any franchise can turn around its luck, it would be the Dallas Cowboys. But until the pre-season starts in August, here’s a few things that will help pass the time until the next kickoff.

NFL Combine

The NFL Combine is a great way to see the new wave of talent entering the NFL. All the players that everyone has been talking about, from this past college football season, will be there showing off their skills. Watching the Combine puts everyone into the shoes of the scouts and coaches; evaluating all the talent to see which players would be the best fit for the team. It takes place from February 22-25.

The NFL Draft

Obviously the Boys need have some holes to fill during this years draft. The offense was average this year finishing 16th in total offense, but the defense was terrible finishing dead last in yards allowed per game (415.3) and 26th in points allowed (27). Championships cannot be won with that type of defensive performance. The Champion Seahawks allowed just 14.4 points and 273.6 yards per game.

The Cowboys have to focus on rebuilding that defense, and it doesn’t mean that we’re all going to expect the defense to turn into the next Doomsday Defense. The defense does need to move up to at least an average, this next season. We posted a poll that asked what the “Cowboys 1st Round pick should be used on?” So far we have a landslide in the favor of defensive players. Looking at the number from last season and our poll, it’s easy to say that the fans should all agree. We should see the Cowboys focusing on the defense, especially on the D-line and in the secondary.

Baseball

The Texas Rangers are set to start their season against the Philadelphia Phillies on March 31. I know Texas is football country, but it is something to help pass the time. The Rangers are expected to have a pretty decent season this year; they do have the 12th best odds of winning the World Series.

The World Cup

The World Cup is only an option every four years, and this happens to be one of those years. It starts after the draft and ends before the season starts (June 12 – July13).

The USA squad drew a tough pool, giving the squad early match ups with Germany, Portugal, and Ghana–who knocked out the US during the past 2 World Cups. Even if they don’t make it through pool play, it’s a fun event to watch and keep up with.

Gaming

If baseball and soccer don’t interest you at all then gaming is a good option. Most people have an Xbox or a PlayStation with a copy of Madden. Taking Jerry’s World and turning it to Your World can be exciting. If you’re more of a thrill seeker, then you could try out online gaming. My personal pick, the online casino Betfair. Which has all sorts of games, including slots and multi-player poker that could be played with friends through the internet.

Once the season ends, it can really tough to find something to pass the time. Hopefully these ideas helped some of you pass the time. Please feel free to leave recommendations to help pass the time for others in the comments section.
