It’s that time again folks. It is the point in the season where the playoffs are still a ways away, transfers can’t be made, and the league’s activity is basically at a standstill. With not that much to talk about, I decided to recap some of the most important moments of each team’s season in order to keep our minds from wondering about other things. This will be a three part series, with the first piece resting below. Now, let us look back at what has been important so far this season.
Chicago Fire – The Trade for Oduro
The Ghanaian streaker was more known for his plethora of horrific misses rather than goals scored coming into the season. However, Oduro has really found his form in Chicago and is often the most dangerous attacker on the Fire offense. Though the trade for Oduro didn’t truly help the Fire in the table, the team would probably be breaking the loss record rather than the tie record if it weren’t for him.
Colombus Crew – Home Win Against RSL
It is quite obvious that when the Crew defeated RSL earlier in June the whole league looked at it as a fluke. Surely this Columbus team couldn’t be good enough to compete with some of the best in the league on a regular basis. But since that victory, Colombus has defeated a number of top teams and soared up the Eastern Conference table that it now reigns. The “upset” win against RSL was the start of something very special in Columbus.
Chivas USA- Lack of Summer Transfer Moves
Certainly Chivas’ lack of transfer maneuvering will eventually haunt the club in the future. For years this team has lived in the shadow of their crosstown rivals and they had a great chance to gain some city respect once they were thrust to the top of the MLS’ allocation order. However, after missing out on Feilhaber, Adu, and possibly Johnson, the club really has no one to blame but themselves.
Colorado Rapids – Sanna Nyassi’s Red Bull Rampage
Nyassi’s stunning hat trick was more than just a 3 point win for the Rapids. It demonstrated how dangerous the young Gambian can really be if he is given space in the attacking third. It seemingly wrecked the Red Bull’s season who have gone winless since the incident. And it sparked a variety of good results for the Rapids who have been on a rampage for the month of August. A turning point? I would say so.
DC United – The DeRo Trade
Do I even need to explain this one? De Rosario has been instrumental to the DC attack ever since he arrived and is the reason DCU are in a prime position for a playoff spot. Plus the team didn’t have to pick up De Ro’s entire salary thanks to NY and TFC already using his expensive services. Simply put, the trade might go down as one of the biggest in MLS history.
FC Dallas – Signing Brek Shea to a New Contract
Ever since Shea inked a new deal with FCD, the man has been on an absolute rampage in the MLS. Even without David Ferreira, Dallas is still one of the most competitive clubs mainly due to Shea’s killer instinct on the offensive and defensive end. The new deal gave him some confidence and allowed FCD fans to take a deep breath after their star went down.
