Indianapolis Colts: Reggie Wayne Tears ACL, What’s Next?

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays at Oakland Athletics

After an emotional game where Peyton Manning returned to his old home in Indianapolis, the Colts learned that their win over the Denver Broncos came at a costly price.

One of the leaders off the Colts’ offense, wide receiver Reggie Wayne,  suffered a season-ending injury, tearing his anterior cruciate ligament late in the fourth quarter.
He is one of the many Colts who have been placed on the injured reserve list, as Vick Ballard, Ahmad Bradshaw, and Dwayne Allen are all out for the season.
After playing 189 consecutive games, Wayne’s streak will come to an end after Week 9 (Colts have a bye Week 8).
“He means a lot,” wide receiver T.Y. Hilton told reporters. “Everybody looks up to him. He’s a 13-year vet and it’s something we hate to see happen.”
Wayne leads his team in receiving yards, as through seven games, Wayne has accumulated 503 yards. He also has two touchdowns and averages 13.2 yards per reception.
Out of Luck
The biggest player whose value has been hurt negatively is quarterback, Andrew Luck. Luck has lost his number one option in Wayne and now has to rely on Hilton and Coby Fleener a lot more than he already has.
His fantasy numbers may take a dip but it won’t be deep enough to take him out of the “must start” category.
“After the game, a big part of me felt like it was a loss in a sense because of what happened to Reggie, and my involvement in it,” Luck said.
Rising Up
With Wayne’s injury, wide out Darrius Heyward-Bey must become a dependable receiver for Luck. He will go up against the second best cornerback on the opposing team’s roster, so it’s very important for him to become a big playmaker.
Heyward-Bey should be added in fantasy leagues because he has the chance to become a regular WR2 option.
