After 8 unbelievable seasons with the New England Patriots, LB Jerod Mayo hinted retirement in his Instagram post today.
Mayo has dealt with injuries that has plagued him over the past few seasons. In 2013, Mayo had a pectoral injury which limited him to playing 10 games and missing 6. The following year, Mayo also missed six games because of a nagging knee injury. This season, Mayo played through the 16 games this year but ended up on the IR with a shoulder injury.
Mayo was a stellar linebacker at Tennessee, which led to New England nabbing him #10 overall in the 2008 draft in which he made an immediate impact. 803 tackles, 3 forced fumbles and 11 sacks later, Mayo is a complete linebacker that has been a force for Belichick and company.
Mayo said this in his Instagram post:
“After a lot of thought [Mayo’s wife] Chantel and I take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude for what we consider a life changing event…..that of becoming a New England Patriot for the past 8 years,” Mayo wrote in the message. “We are extremely grateful to ‘Thundercat’ [Patriots owner Robert Kraft], [Patriots president] Jonathan [Kraft], the Kraft family, Coach [Bill] Belichick, the Pats organization, and the most amazing fans in contributing to these pages of our lives.
“As my family and I prepare for the future be sure that the Pats memories will always hold a special place in our hearts. #51 JMayo.”
