John Farrell will be taking the day off as the Red Sox manager and will be attending his sons MLB debut for the Kansas City Royals. Luke Farrell is a right-handed pitcher for the Royals who was drafted in 2013. Luke has bounced around six different teams in the minor leagues most recently playing for the Omaha Strom Chasers the triple-A affiliate of the Royals.
Luke has done his time and will get the call to the mound for his MLB debut Saturday afternoon as he will pitch game one of a doubleheader vs. the Minnesota Twins.
John Farrell has said he has been given permission from GM Dave Dombrowski to miss Saturdays Red Sox game to watch his son. Gary Disarcina will fill in for Farrell in his absence.
“I don’t know that I’ll be sitting,” Farrell said after Friday’s game. “I’ll be pacing the ballpark for sure.”
