According to multiple sources, Washington Wizards point guard John Wall, who has been without a shoe sponsorship for over two years, will be returning to Adidas in the very near future. For the first time in recent memory, Wall sported Adidas kicks during an actual NBA game and not just casually or during a shootaround/practice.
John Wall originally signed a deal with Reebok before his rookie season, but switched over to Adidas, the parent company, during his third season with the Wizards when Reebok decided to take a step back from basketball branding. Then, Wall received signature shoes: the John Wall 1’s and the Wall 2’s the next season with Adidas.
When his contract ended a bit over two years ago, Wall declined Adidas’ offer of $7.5 million per year because he wanted a deal similar to James Harden’s 13-year, 200 million agreement with Adidas. Ironically enough, Wall returned to wearing Adidas and his floral Wall 1’s against Harden’s Houston Rockets on Friday.
Recently, Wall was sporting many Nike kicks during games especially the Paul George’s. Wall’s agent Rich Paul, also LeBron James’ agent, mainly has clients that are loyal to Nike and/or Jordan, but the Washington point guard will look to be an exception to the rule.
It is not yet known the terms of this deal, but you can bet it is much more handsome than his five-year, $12.5 million he signed as a rookie. It is possible that the final numbers of the contract are still being negotiated, but Wall is expected to take himself off the shoe free agent market soon enough.
UPDATE (January 7, 2018): The Vertical’s Shams Charania reported that Wall is signing a five-year deal with Adidas.
