Josh Jackson’s Draft Stock Rising, But Could He Be A Celtic?

Josh Jackson of Kansas is making his move up on peoples draft boards at the right time. Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball have been long thought to be the first and second players selected come draft night. However, as we near closer to the draft (Thursday, June 22) people shouldn’t be surprised if Jackson bumps one of those two down.

The Celtics have the number one overall pick, and were one of the best teams in the league this past season. So all the draft prospects should want the Celtics to want them right? Apparently Jackson might rather be selected second by the Lakers, who only won 26 games to Boston’s 53. Jackson was scheduled to do a workout with the Celtics, but canceled shortly after his workout with Los Angeles.

There could be a number of reasons that Jackson didn’t want to do a workout with Boston, but the timing points to the possibility that the Lakers have hinted to Jackson their plans to pick him. Another possibility is that Jackson, a SG/SF, believes he has a better opportunity to make an impact for a team like the Lakers over the Celtics, who already have strong wing players.

Danny Ainge has said in the past that although it’s not good when players decide not to workout with the team, he’s not 100 percent opposed to still drafting them. Although Jackson’s draft stock has risen, I still don’t expect the Celtics to select him despite what Ainge’s feelings on missed workouts. It looks like Fultz is still the clear cut favorite for the Celtics, but Jackson could surprise a lot of people if taken second over Ball.
