Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels could soon work his way into his second head coaching gig in the NFL, and soon.
McDaniels nearly left Foxborough last season, having interviewed with the Colts, and verbally committing to the team. Then, with one foot in the door, he essentially left them at the altar, remaining with the Patriots. The team was left scrambling, although hiring Frank Reich seemed to work out extremely well for them.
And now, just one year later, the rumors about McDaniels leaving are swirling again, with another attractive head coaching job having opened.
The Packers fired head coach Mike McCarthy, and the team is looking for an innovative, offensive-minded guy to pair with Aaron Rodgers. McDaniels is both of those things, so he appears to be very much in the mix for the job. He spoke about the rumors at a press conference on Tuesday.
“If that’s in the cards for me, then that’s great,”McDaniels said, via NESN. “I’ve said that before. But again, I’m not worried about that right now.”
He continued.
“All the other stuff is just — it is what it is. I don’t really pay too much attention to it. I love what we do here in terms of working hard to try to come up with the best plan for our players each week, and that’s where our focus is going to remain.”
For now, McDaniels is “on to Miami,” it seems.
