The Bruins Assistant Coach hunt is over as Don Sweeney announced this afternoon that the Bruins have hired Kevin Dean as an Assistant Coach to Bruce Cassidy.
“First and foremost I’d like to thank the Jacobs family, Cam and Don for affording me this tremendous opportunity. Last year with Providence was a big step forward for me professionally and I am very excited to carry that momentum to the NHL level and work with the best players in the world, “ said Dean. “I am also thrilled to work alongside Bruce, Jay, Joe and Bob and build off of the team’s strong 2016-17 campaign.”
Kevin Dean spent five years as an Assistance coach in Providence before becoming the Head Coach just last season. In Dean’s run as head coach of the Providence Bruins, he went 43-23-6 and lead them into a playoff run that ended in the Eastern Conference Finals when they lost to the Syracuse Crunch 4 games to 1.
Dean also had a run as a player in the NHL as he played over 300 games for a combination of teams (Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, and New Jersey) after playing college hockey at the University of New Hampshire. Dean was also a member of the 1994-1995 New Jersy Devils Stanley Cup Team.
Cassidy seems to be a big fan of the promotion saying “We’ve established a strong rapport having coached together for five years in Providence and I look forward to working closely with him again on a daily basis.”
