MIAMI — As the years have passed, it seemed that Kevin Durant always came up short vs LeBron. On Wednesday, it looks like the tables may be beginning to turn.
Thanks to an impressive streak of scoring 30-plus points in twelve straight games, Durant has put himself into the discussion for 2014 NBA Most valuable Player.
In years past, the former Texas Longhorn has always been perceived as just a scorer, lacking an all-around game. This year, Durant and his play has progressed from being the top scorers in the league to now an all-around player. Now in his seventh season in the NBA he’s playing as consistent as ever, in averaging 31.3 points each game.
It isn’t just scoring that he brings to the table, he has learned to get his teammates involved in the game. His defense has improved well over from what it was a few season ago. At a tall and lanky 6’11, rebounding was never really a problem for Durant. But when you look at all the numbers now that he has formed an all-around game it really shows you that he is improving and deserves that MVP title.
With Russell Westbrook out, Durant has put the team on his back and carried them to the top of the stacked Western Conference. While James is no doubt the best player on the planet, it may be time to make room for Durant.
Durant single-handily destroyed the two-time defending champions on their home floor in a resounding 112-95 victory. In scoring 35 points, grabbing seven boards and dishing out five assists, he proved he can beat Miami without Westbrook, not necessarily by himself but without another All Star player by his side, unlike LeBron’s case with two other All Stars by his side.
Durant’s right there at the top of the ladder for the MVP race, neck and neck with LeBron. If he keeps his play the way it is and if he can continue to win games like he is doing this season there is no questions Durant will win his first MVP title.
