Los Angeles Rams must sign CB Kayvon Webster

The Los Angeles Rams are making moves to improve the offense, but what about the defense? With new Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, he might reunite in Los Angeles with one of his former Denver cornerbacks. Phillips’ Rams have interest in free agent Kayvon Webster and will visited the team today (Sunday)

Webster entered the NFL as Denver’s third-round pick in 2013 and produced 59 tackles during his first two seasons. Phillips then came aboard in 2015, and Webster’s playing time dwindled during the coordinator’s two seasons at the helm of an excellent Broncos defense.

Stuck behind Aqib TalibChris Harris Jr. and Bradley Roby, among others, Webster played a meager 58 defensive snaps in 13 games last year. He saw far more action on special teams, where he participated in 253 snaps.

However, he has the potential to shine in the spotlight. The Rams have serious interest in Kayvon Webster, which will be an excellent landing spot. He also has support of his teammates, who believe he could be a starter in NFL. That starter role needs to come in Los Angeles.

The Rams have a couple quality corners in the franchise-tagged Trumaine Johnson and slot man Lamarcus Joyner, though the former is a prime trade candidate. Even with those two in the fold, LA finished 2016 just 20th in the league in DVOA against the pass.

Now, if the Rams sign Webster, he won’t become a starter right off the bat, but has the potential to play along side Johnson or switch coverages with Joyner.

He was the special teams captain with the Broncos last year, and would only require around $5 million per year to be signed to a new contract. He’s a young and passionate player who the Rams must sign. He will add great depth and the opportunity to shine in a Rams defense that is trending as of late.
