Another NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament comes to a close tonight. UNC and Gonzaga will face off against each other in Phoenix to see who will be crowned champions of the basketball world. March has yielded another great tourney, and the final will be sure to live up to the hype.
Coming into the tournament, Gonzaga had only lost one game. Analysts and fans were downgrading their success because of their strength of schedule. They came into the tournament as the one seed in the West bracket. Gonzaga played dream crusher on the way to the finals. After Northwestern won their first tournament game in the history of their university, the Bulldogs swiftly showed them their door. West “Press” Virginia was the next victim. They were a trendy pick to upset Gonzaga, but met the same fate as Northwestern. 11th seeded Xavier was the next Cinderella to miss the ball, followed by South Carolina. Gonzaga will now face a familiar face in North Carolina.
UNC had an arguably tougher time getting to the finals. Facing powerhouses like Kentucky and Oregon and barely escaping with buzzer beaters from unlikely heroes. Facing Gonzaga in the finals, many analysts have picked North Carolina to take the crown. It’s hard to argue against a team that has made the finals 10 times, winning 5. Under Roy Williams, they have two championships and are looking to get their third. He hasn’t had as much success in recent years, but they have been continually good for his entire tenure.
Make sure to set your DVR’s, since the game is tonight at 9:20 PM ET.
