I don’t know if the rest of the world knows or cares about this, but the Mariners are on a 7 game win streak, their longest since 2007. They just swept a four game series for the first time since 2001.
Not important right? Wrong! They are 7.5 games back of the second Wild Card spot, and 7 games under .500. On this date back in 1995, the Mariners were 13 games out of the playoffs and 3 games under .500. Those of us alive then will remember what eventually came to pass.
Randy Johnson out of the bullpen in game five to get the win, Edgar Martinez doubling down the line, and Griffey coming around from first to beat the Yankees.
If you weren’t alive, or don’t remember, it looked a little something like this.
Let’s go Mariners. Refuse to Lose!
