Despite an opening week road win for the Dolphins, the talk Monday morning after the game was all about Mike Wallace's displeasure with his lack of involvement. This week after the Dolphins got their second win of the season we shouldn't have to worry about any Mike Wallace headlines anytime soon.
Mike Wallace bounced back from his week one, one catch stat line grabbing 9 catches for 115 yards and a score against the Colts. Wallace was targeted early and often and was every bit the play maker the Dolphins paid him to be this off season. Wallace's 9 catches is a career high for the 27 year old wide receiver.
Mike Sherman's play calling was vastly improved as he was able to dial up creative ways of getting Wallace the football. Wallace's usage was refreshing in Week 2 as the Dolphins called screens, slats and much more cleaner routes which led to him being open throughout the game. We also witnessed Wallace's breakaway speed as he blew by defenders on a deep ball.
Wallace on Sherman finally calling the bubble screen, “We’ve been holding it back, I thought we were going to call it last week. Coach Sherman waited for the perfect situation, got it called and we got a touchdown.”
Last week Wallace was able to be make a difference as a decoy, however most still were disappointed in his performance. This week we saw what Mike Wallace can bring to the Dolphins offense.
Ryan Tannehill is clearly the beneficiary of now finally having a legitimate play making home run hitter to target.
The Tannehill to Wallace connection was alive and well this week and hopefully will be one that only grows stronger throughout the upcoming weeks.
