New England Patriots’ Vince Wilfork Tears Achilles Tendon, Out for the Season

.

It’s being reported that New England Patriots monster nose tackle Vince Wilfork is likely out for the rest of the 2013-2014 season after tearing his Achilles tendon in his right leg Sunday night against the Atlanta Falcons.

Wilfork is nothing short of amazing in how seemingly engulf one sometimes even two interior lineman on opposing teams and when that happens, running games get completely wiped out for the game.  While Wilfork isn’t the most liked player around the league especially in the AFC East but he is a tremendous athlete.

As for the injury to Wilfork, an Achilles tear a person  has two options:  either the surgeon makes a single large incision in the back of the leg or the surgeon makes several small incisions rather than the one large incision. After either type of surgery, you will likely wear a cast, walking boot, or similar device for about two months. At first, the cast or boot is positioned to keep the foot pointed downward as the tendon heals. The cast or boot is then adjusted gradually to put the foot in a neutral position (not pointing up or down). Many health professionals recommend starting movement and weight-bearing exercises early, before the cast or boot comes off.

A total recovery time is likely to be as long as six months. Wilfork might possess a bit more of a challenge due to his massive 6-foot-2, 325 pound frame and it will greatly impair his mobility and agility after he makes a full recovery. As a fan of sports one can hope he can make a speedy and complete recovery.
