Although 4 teams within the New England punched tickets into the tourney, only 1 thus far has been eliminated from contention and it was #16 ranked Holy Cross.
A tough game to watch but it was the expected result from the majority of America unless if you believed in a miracle upset. #1 Oregon toasted the Crusaders 91-52 and now are advancing to play #8 seed Saint Josephs, which denied Cincinnati of a victory Friday night 78-76. G Robert Champion of Holy Cross, led the tam with 22 points off the bench but they fell well short of the victory.
Another New England team still in contention is #12 seed Yale Bulldogs, as they sent #5 seed Baylor home with great defense and pick pocketing Baylor on the last possession to seal the victory 79-75. Now the Bulldogs have a date with #4 seed Duke Saturday. The match-up that I am anticipating to watch is Yale G Makai Mason (16 ppg) and Duke G Grayson Allen (21 ppg), who have been putting up extraordinary numbers for their respective schools during the tournament and regular season.
#9 Providence had luck on there side Friday, as they scored a layup with roughly 1.5 seconds to go against #8 USC and sealed the victory and the upset Thursday. Ben Bentil has been a key component to the Friars on the glass and scoring along with potential lottery pick G Kris Dunn. Now today, the #9 Friars are going against the #1 seed North Carolina Tar Heels as the point spread on ESPN predicts North Carolina winning by 10. This may be the upset we don’t expect.
Finally, #9 UConn had a great performance against the #8 seed Colorado 74-67 and knocked them out of contention and pulling the upset. Daniel Hamilton is essential for the Huskies as he and fellow G Rodney Purvis shut down the Buffaloes and are advancing to play #1 seed Kansas, which will make them work way harder than before. Fun fact for you today is that UConn coach Kevin Ollie is unbeaten in the NCAA tournament.
