News and Notes : DE Clowney and QB Bridgewater Declare For Draft, Browns Set To Hire Schwartz as DC?

DE Jadeveon Clowney and QB Teddy Bridgewater Declare For 2014 NFL Draft – While not surprising, South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and Louisville Cardinals quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater have decided to enter the 2014 NFL draft. 

Clowney, a 20-year-old 6’6, 269-pound defensive end declared for the NFL after the Gamecocks 34-24 win over Wisconsin in the Capitol One Bowl, is the top-rated overall prospect according to ESPN’s Todd McShay. 

For the year, Clowney recorded 36 tackles and three sacks and earned All-SEC honors, for his career, Clowney recorded 24 sacks and 127 tackles.  

In deciding to declare for the draft, Clowney exclaimed, “Yes sir!” 

Bridgewater, the top-rated quarterback prospect, per McShay, threw for 3,970 yards and 31 touchdowns, decided to forgo his senior year at Louisville.  Bridgewater, 21 announced his decision on Twitter Wednesday afternoon. 

Currently projected as the top overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, it is likely that Bridgewater will most likely be selected by the 2-14 Houston Texans, who hold the first pick in May.  

According to Larry Brown of LarryBrownSports.com via Twitter, Bridgewater is likely to sign with Jay-Z’s agency, Roc Nation 

Cleveland Browns to Hire Ex-Lions Head Coach Jimmy Schwartz as Defensive Coordinator —  According to media reports, the Cleveland Browns are set to hire former Detroit Lions head coach, Jimmy Schwartz as their new defensive coordinator. 

Known for his aggressive and unique “Wide 9” 4-3 base defense, Schwartz is set to inherit a talented—yet inconsistent—defense that gave up four fourth-quarter leads in the second half of the season in Cleveland.
