This “Holiday Bowl” match-up would have been a battle of potential Top 20 teams just a few years ago, but this match-up against Texas and California is more of a battle of underperforming teams and programs.
Still, as these programs have stockpiled some great talents through recruiting in the past and have the talent level to be 9, 10 win teams
1. Keenan Robinson, OLB, Texas
A rangy, quick to the ball linebacker, he’s a great athlete who excells in coverage and can make plays across the field. A potential 2nd round pick, he’ll need to continue to flow well to the ball and make plays in space, two things I expect in this one for him to do.
2. Kheeston Randall, DT, Texas
A powerful inside rushing defensive tackle, Randall is very stout at the point of attack and anchors extremely well against oppossing offensive lineman. Looking forward to see how he disengages and gets to the backfield in this one.
3. Emmanuael Acho, OLB, Texas
A long, athletic outside linebacker who can rush the passer well and dip in coverage fairly well, he’s the brother of former Texas DE (and a prospect I loved) Sam Acho. Emamanuel breaks down the ball well and stops the run well, and could go higher than his brother did in Round 3.
4. Alex Okafor, DE, Texas (JR)
A former five star recruit, Okafor could very well declare for this draft and be one of the better rushing ends in this draft class. He’s raw in his rushing technique, he has the versatility to play defensive tackle, end or potentially even stand up as a rusher.
5. Trevor Guyton, DE, California
Guyton sets the edge very well as a pass rusher and utilizes a strong bull rush especially. He’s built well and at 6’3, 289, he could even play the defensive end position in a 3-4 defense, a skill set that really intrigues NFL teams.
6. Mychal Kendricks, ILB, California
Kendricks is a great rusher in the middle of the defense and has a history of generating pressure with consistency. However, he really hasn’t been as dominate vs. the run and needs to show he can handle an NFL style rushing attack in Texas when they do run the ball.
Other Prospects to Watch:
7. Michael Schwartz, OT, California
8. Sean Cattouse, S, California
9. Marvin Jones, WR, California
10. Blake Giddeon, S, Texas
11. Anthony Miller, TE, California
12. David Snow, OC, Texas
