Positive notes: Boise States running game has dramatically improved this week. Kudos go to the offensive line and Doug Martin for his hard running. Defense played stellar. Couldn’t really ask much more of the defense. They held Nevada to 2 possessions all game on Boise States side of the field. They for the most part held Nevada under 100 yards of total offense. Nevada was averaging something like 480 yards against the previous 3 schools they faced(Oregon, Texas Tech, San Jose)
Negative notes: Sloppy play by the receivers. Had a total of 5 dropped passes and did not run good routes for a good portion of the game. Kellen didn’t have a great day in the 1st half but settled down in the late stages of the 2nd quarter and did way better in the 3rd quarter. A lot of phantom penalties. One infamous one would be Doug Martins 90 something yard touchdown run that got called back due to a phantom hold call by Gabe Linehan. Need to clean up the personal fouls. Had 3 straight plays where there was a personal foul called.
Injury updates: Well if you hadn’t noticed, we have been playing without a fullback for 4 weeks. Uncertain on what Dan Pauls injuries. Chris Potter has a hip injury that occurred last week vs Tulsa. Jerrell Gavins might end up missing the rest of the season due to an ACL tear that he suffered during Wednesdays or Thursdays practice during the Nevada week preparation. Thomas Byrd has also been unable to play with an apparent leg/knee injury I’m assuming. That snapped his streak of 36 straight starts. Sophomore Matt Paradis replaced Thomas Byrd at center last week only to be the next offensive lineman who has caught the injury bug.
Overall take of the Nevada game: Glad we beat them. Ecstatic that we are 4-0 heading to a hostile Fresno State environment where last time we were there we gave up 250 yards rushing to Ryan Matthews. Need to clean up the little stuff and we should be set for another great season of Bronco Football!
