With the 60th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select, Cyrus Jones, CB out of Alabama.
Jones is a Belichick type of player that was one of Nick Saban’s pupils during his time at Alabama. Jones is a bit undersized by scouts and coaches at 5’10 and 197 pounds but his talent nonetheless is something special. Jones is a special teamer as well which adds versatility to the Patriots and gives Amendola and Edelman breaks from punt returns and kick returns.
At the combine, Jones posted mediocre numbers with 10 reps of 225, 33 inch vertical, but had good speed in the 40 with a 4.49 40. Jones was a very effective punt returner at Bama as last year, Jones returned 4 touchdowns on 42 attempts, as shown on NFL.com. Being groomed by Nick Saban and the Alabama coaching staff is a one of a kind opportunity and going to the best team in the NFL is even sweeter.
This was a smart decision on the part of Belichick and the New England Patriots.
