All the talk leading up to this game was incredible. Bills fan all pumped up wanting for their chance to beat Tom Brady and how did that workout for them not so good. The Bills fans brought some decently loud noise to the stadium until the Patriots were up 14 points then the stadium seemed like a library, you could hear a pin drop at times. Although the Patriots let the Bills back in the game in the fourth quarter to make it look a lot closer than it was it is a win and the Patriots are now 2-0.
Bill Belichick seemed decently happy at the podium after the game saying: “It’s always good to come up here and win. There was a lot of energy in the stadium, in pre-game and so forth. I thought that after the first drive our team showed a lot of mental toughness and resiliency to come back in a pretty hostile atmosphere; to take the lead and play from ahead most of the game. There are certainly a lot of things we could do better. We left a lot of plays on the field. We just have to keep trying to coach better and play better; play with more consistency. We had a good week of preparation and we were ready to go. We did a lot of things well, but there are certainly a lot of things we need to do better. We’ll concentrate on that, but it’s always good to win a road division game and come up here in Buffalo. That’s always a good thing.”
But obviously the game was not perfect the Patriots took their foot off the gas pedal in the fourth quarter allowing the Bills to get back into the game. There were a couple of plays where the run would have done just fine but yet the patriots decide to pass and it did not work giving the Bills the ball. Belichick was asked about if he thought they kept the Bills in the game by passing as much as they did, he replied: “I think we did what we thought was best to win the game. That’s what we always do.”
Julian Edelman had himself another solid game going 97 yards on 11 receptions and scoring 2 touchdowns. It was Edelman’s first and second touchdown of the year, when asked about how it feels to get the first one out of the way he said: “It’s good. It’s always good to go out and score, but more importantly it’s good to go out and get the division win against a tough opponent that was coming off of a big win.”
Rex Ryan had himself a powerful opening statement to his presser saying: “Well, I’m going to tell you exactly how I told our team. First off this loss is squarely on one man’s shoulders. It’s on my shoulders. You know, yeah we gotta get better as a team there’s no question. But I have to get better. You know (Bill) Belichick out coached me. No question about it and that’s where the game…that’s how it ended up and it’s unfortunate. The plan has to be better on defense. Can’t give up 500 yards and beat anybody, and then we turn it over three times. But uh…You know we did a horse shit job and it’s my responsibility. Our team will get better, but it starts with me getting better and looking forward to next week. With that I’ll open it up for questions.”
One thing about yesterday’s game is that there was no short of penalties as we saw them often. Between both team there was 25 penalties (11 on the pats and 14 on the Bills). A lot of the penalties were bad penalties too I recall seeing a unsportsmanlike conduct and taunting call on the Jets and the Patriots. Rex Ryan had this to say about all the penalties: “Yeah absolutely and discuss I think is right. I mean sometimes you know it’s an emotional game, you should play with emotion. But sometimes you let your emotions get the better of you and it went to our detriment and it starts with me. I obviously have to control my emotions a little better regardless of how bad things were going.”
With the win the patriots are now 2-0 and Brady is 24-3 in his career against the Buffalo Bills. The Patriots will now head back to Foxborough as they will prepare to play Jacksonville next Sunday.
