The Patriots could not have been too happy with the field condition on Thursday night when they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 42-27 because they are now getting new turf installed at Gillette Stadium. This is not uncommon to get new turf but the Patriots just got new turf installed in May. The Patriots only had 3 games and a single practice on the old playing surface.
These changes coming because the old turf did not meet team standards. Some players recently have commented saying that the field was very soft almost to the point where it was too soft.
The timing of this worked out perfect as the Patriots do not play at home this weekend as they play on Sunday, September 17th in New Orleans. The Revolution will also be away as they have a game on the 13th in Atlanta.
The new turf will be ready to go for the Patriots to return home and play the Texans on September 24th. It will also be ready for the Revolution when they play the night before on the 23rd.
The last time the Patriots changed playing surfaces during the season was in 2006 after a 17-14 loss to the Jets at a very wet Gillette Stadium. They changed from natural grass to turf.
