Malcolm Mitchell has been limited at practice this week due to a knee injury. Mitchell sustained the injury in New England’s 41-3 win over the New York Jets on December 24th. He then missed the final game of the season against the Dolphins.
The rookie wide receiver has been productive for the Patriots this season, catching 32 passes on 48 targets for 401 yards and 4 touchdowns. He’s averaging 12.5 yards per catch and has big play potential, demonstrated by his 56-yard touchdown against the 49ers.
Mitchell has quickly become one of Tom Brady’s favorite targets this season. Brady praised Mitchell, saying “He shows up every day with his hard hat on ready to go to work. I’ve just been very impressed with him since the day he came in, and just his personality is infectious.”
You know you’re playing well and working hard when terrific Tom is praising your work ethic. Mitchell remains questionable for the Patriots game against the Texans on Saturday. With the return on Danny Amendola from an ankle injury and Micheal Floyd’s emergence, Mitchell might get to rest on Sunday. After all, they are playing the Texans and Las Vegas has the spread at -16, so I’m not too worried if the Patriots don’t have him for this weeks game. Give Mitchell some extra rest so he’s healthy for the AFC Championship, a game they’ll surely need him for.
In other injury news: QB Tom Brady (thigh), CB Cyrus Jones (knee), and WR Matthew Slater (foot) were all removed from the injury report. Running back LeGarrette Blount didn’t participate the past two days due to an illness.
The Patriots will host the Houston Texans this Saturday at 8:15pm. One easy win away from another AFC Championship appearance. Bill and Brady will be locked in and ready to go. Do your Job.
