This Patriots linebacker core expanded today, as injuries are plaguing the depth of linebackers and adding another “hybrid” in Kyle Van Noy will certifiably say that the Patriots have one of the most athletic linebacker corps in the entire league.
Van Noy, a former second round pick of the Lions back in 2014 out of BYU, was arguably one of the most gifted players in Cougar history and his versatility was unmatched. A former four sport athlete and then steam rolling the competition in college, Van Noy caught the attention of the Lions, who were sitting in the 2nd round, snatched him to help out with their line backing woes. Injuries have plagued the 26 year old, as Belichick once again with his creative mindset, went out and got a player in which they needed for depth and could provide key assurance down the road.
Only 39 career tackles for Van Noy, but it could be worth it soon if the potential is reached fast. Van Noy was compared to the likings of Mike Vrabel, as experts claim, and is again one of those hybrid linebackers that has speed and naturally gifted athleticism to cover multiple different positional players. Van Noy joins Barkevious Mingo, Jamie Collins, Dont’a Hightower and Ninkovich within the linebacker corps in hopes to break out and help win ball games.
